I remember reading a poem - perhaps by Borges - that said something to the effect of We have air conditioning and well-working plumbing, but we still haven't written the poem. We have algebra and 4-wheel drive, but we still haven't been able to write the poem etc. etc. etc. Does anyone know it? Thanks!

Years and years ago I read a poem that I thought was written by Bukowski. Around mid-length, it's theme was somethng like. They're gonna win. The bastards win every time. We're gonna' lose. We're always gonna lose. Does anyone else remember this one?

Why this one's not included in his poem list? Go all the way - Charles Bukowski “If you're going to try, go all the way. Otherwise, don't even start. This could mean losing girlfriends, wives, relatives and maybe even your mind. I t could mean not eating for three or four days. It could mean freezing on a park bench. It could mean jail. It could mean derision. It could mean mockery- isolation. Isolation is the gift. All the others are a test of your endurance, of how much you really want to do it. And, you'll do it, despite rejection and the worst odds. And it will be better than anything else you can imagine. If you're going to try, go all the way. There is no other feeling like that. You will be alone with the gods, and the nights will flame with fire. You will ride life straight to perfect laughter. It's the only good fight there is.”

@Georgios Venetopoulos Poetry is beyond any religion or a language. It has no language or boundaries, yet, it speaks to your soul. Intoxication or sobriety are just your current state of mind. Poetry comes from some far and forgotten land. I just never could understand those that love to criticize, just for the sake of it. Something in his writings pulled you here, made you stay, had you spend time writing No matter how positive or negative because that don't matter. The fact is that he pulled you towards himself, had you spend time, reading him and writing about him. He succeeded in his quest....

The criticism of Bukowski made me laugh. It rather reminded me of Samuel Johnson criticizing the metaphysical poets: Make sense, dammit! Thanks for brightening my day!

Bukowski is not a poet. He composes under the influence (intoxicated actually) and his writes are illogical and hellish, byproducts of his besotted thinking. Then, his devotees spend millions of minutes to exalt and explain his grandness in arbitrary compositions of ideas which follow the philosophy of whatever. Bukowski does not comprehend what 'verse means', his knowledge of the English language is elementary, his grammar is faulty but overall he manages to create an army of admirers who drink like him, compose like him and spit at the world like him.

Dirty Dog - Poem by Is It Poetry His dirty dog kept moving on. Pissing on what he liked, but never owned. He knows they won't like it either. So they throw it out. A dog, 'Bukowski' owned. Is It Poetry

I love Bukowski. The nearest poet I've found to his style is a guy called Jim Sparx. He has a website called bullet2theskull.

a genius and a fantastic poet. He takes the mundane and makes it a dark thrill ride.

It is strange, Bukowski swears by his alcohol to create his art. He NEVER wrote without it. Dylan Thomas, however, never drank when he worked. I suppose everybody's creative process is different. I chain smoke when I write. I wonder if anyone else does...

Does anyone know where to find Bukowski's poem about watching a bullfight on television in a bar? An ordinary barroom afternoon, desultory conversation, desultory TV gazing, and then suddenly he is gripped and gut-wrenched by this ritual of death.

Today I was reading Bukowski poems. As the sparrow, My first affair with that older women, Death wants more death, Something for the touts, nuns, the grocery clerks and you, Freedom. Some say that sparrow it's all about life and death circle - like a fucking lion king. It's not! It's about yours miserable lives, lives without any purpose, life where all you want to be is young - because you don't want to fight with yourself. You want to postponed life like some post it on the fridge that lies there forever. You can't do that.It gets you.eventually.it causes mutilated people.Dear HUMANITY I did nothing. I just watched you and wrote what you've done yourself. And I? I was old when it would have taken less courage to be young, I cried when it would have taken less courage to laugh (a smile to remember - remember that smile how NOT to smile ever!) and I hated you ONLY when it would have taken less courage to love.I can not love you if you are harming yourself; that means that I approve. That I approve you shitting your life with anger, bitterness, despair. IT TAKES LESS COURAGE TO LOVE HUMANITY AS IT IS THAN TO HATE. Freedom is not about SEX it is about LOVE! . It's easier to live life without emotions. You need to have BALLS to love fully someone like I did Jane. I knew she was weak but I loved her anyway.I drank alone for two years after she died. You? You don't even remember why did you marry her/him. Can't you see. you are not able to love. you think you do but you don't. You don't let love kill you. You worship yourself on selfish level. You don't let anybody hurt you. Noooo..you are too important to be killed by love, you know better! ..(..You know shit) . so.... you know better and you let yourself to be killed by money, million likes, million followers, fashion, luxury, hollywood, fame. everybodyisenvyatmesickness. I know some man who resent me for buying 2 bmw cars. stupid fucks. what do you think is changed? Are you worried about my soul? You think I've sold out? What's the difference? One who does NOT have soul, it is going to give away to luxuries, one who HAS a soul it is going to continue. You can't be sold out if you have soul. it is so easy to fail. My luck is that it happened too much too late. I was smart enough don't worry about my soul.worry about yours bringing up the family as the victory soul.worry about your false revolutionary soul, worry about the life you give away, don't worry about my soul.you don't believe me? Read some of my poems...but with heart this time.

You show some promise, but the archaic language lets you down. Try to read some good contemporary poets and expand your thoughts without the restriction of form.
