Dewald Viljoen Biography

I don't write because I enjoy it, I write because I have no choice in the matter. This results in very irregular phases of creativity, months or years go by without a single word! So what you are reading on this site could be the beginning or the complete collection of my life's work, but in either case I hope you find something that rings true to you!

Some of my favourite lines:

'WHEN you are old and gray and full of sleep,
And nodding by the fire, take down this book,
And slowly read, and dream of the soft look
Your eyes had once, and of their shadows deep'

W B Yeats

' En dan word hy mos stil en jy hoor nie meer sy stem nie...'

Pieter Pieterse

'then in the arctic half light of the canyon, all existence fades into a being with my soul and memories and the sounds of the Big Blackfoot River and a four count rhythm and the hope that a fish will rise.Eventually all things merge into one, and a river runs through it. The river was cut by the worlds great flood an runs over rocks from the basement of time. On some of the rocks there are timeless raindrops.Under the rocks are the words, and some of the words are theirs. I am haunted by waters.'

Norman MacLean
