(003) Straight No Chaser (To Cfb)
Straight, no chaser - ah, the might
by Leeanndra O'Lear
of bourbon's paralyzing bite;
my days of keeping up with you
And yet, with all the empty racks
of wine, those dog-eared paperbacks
inside your saddlebags imply
there's more to you then meets the eye.
So funny how I knew it then -
at 13, back in homeroom, when
you gobbled up that book on Poe
that my esteem for you would grow.
And now, as that familiar roar
kicks into life, beyond the door
and helmet's strapped
and taps ensues
I mourn the loss of your reviews.
It's takes tremendous focus, friend
to ride so fast and skim each bend
and tune-out all the noise to read
a world of books at breakneck speed.
O yes, it's quite a pity, true
that someone with your high IQ,
whose well endowed with handsome traits
should sometimes cave to drunken fates.
Yet.....settling will never do
for after hearing praise from you
discouragement is shoved aside -
you drove me nuts but gave me pride.
