0048 On First Reading Rilke

Out of the cage
you had not known you were in
with a freedom
beyond what you thought it to be
into the spaciousness
which was boundless
and a joy
which redefined itself day by day
around a firm centre
which was everywhere

Like Cortez on a peak in Darien... I'm thinking this is a poem where you want to be just massively and egregiously wraithlike and elliptical... and you are reaching, but you are not quite where you want to be yet... Out of the cage you had not known you were in I LIKE THIS VERY MUCH with a freedom beyond what you thought it to be THIS NOT SO MUCH 'FREEDOM' IS WEAK TEA AND SO IS 'BEYOND' into the boundlessness which was boundless THIS SHOULD 'FEEL' GRANDER THAN IT DOES IT TRIES BUT IT DOESN'T SUSTAIN and a joy which redefined itself day by day AGAIN, IT COMES UP JUST A BIT SHORT FOR ME around a firm centre which was everywhere AND YET AGAIN... YOU REALLY DON'T HAVE MUCH IMAGERY AFTER THE CAGE THING, JUST 'SPACE' AND JUDGE-Y WORDS LET ME DO A QUICK SCAN OF THE POEM, TURNING UP THE BULLSHITOMETER TO 10... Sprung from the cage you had not known you were in a door swung wider than hinges allow into the boundlessness went bounding a joy that remade itself every moment a sculptor with unraveling birds for hands around a crouching core that pierces every atom's heart Well now I feel like I pooped in your back yard. I GET the feeling you are gunning for and it gives me shivers... but you need to seal the deal, capisce?
Like the proverbial bird out of the cage!
