39 Are Dead

4 bombs explode, inside Iraq,
39 are dead.
Planted by extremists,
is what the papers said.

1 inside a cement bag,
another in a car.
Between them they killed 16,
and many more are scarred.

2 more booby-trapped lorries,
exploded in a village.
And no-one can justify,
the mindless human spillage.

A list of facts and figures,
reported in the news.
But the families of those whom have died,
what about their views.

Does their voice ever get heard?
Who takes time to ask?
The little children orphaned by,
the bombers deadly blast.
No-one reports their misery.
No-one reports their grief.
Is it because their stories will be,
So far beyond belief?

But the papers will continue,
to report on numbers lost.
And never tell the stories of,
the ones who feel the loss.

And we’ll continue reading,
the facts and figures written.
But really we should all hear,
accounts of those grief stricken.

With empathy - 10 Seconds It took nine months to make you, hard labour to give you breath, sixteen years to watch you grow until you left the nest. Then they took you In their army, sent you off to war and on one dark and filthy night it took one shot, ten seconds for them to take your life.
Excellent subject Nicely written I have also taken similar theme in my 'Smudge of Blood' When time permits pls see the similarity in our theme. Rgds Nooruddeen

First, thanks for writing on this topic, Heath. 'A list of facts and figures, reported in the news. But the families of those whom have died, what about their views..' Pitily, most of the media is just an account of dry facts often going through minds not touching souls, leaving most of us cold-hearted..and, terrible to say but true...accustomed to it...Thanks for sharing this poem, it tells very much to learn and ponder on. A.
Violence is senseless, and no benefit has ever come out of it. People who resort to violence are those who fail to reason with order in their minds. The verse is touching.
