.7. Clay Potter

I was dug from a pit
A large lump of clay
By a great potter
For later that day

When he was ready
To make a new pot
He cut off a piece
From the lump he had got

The piece he had cut
He threw on a wheel
It spun very slowly
To give him the feel

His fingertips moulded me
To a fine pot
Inside and outside
He moved quite a lot

Then into his kiln
Where I baked to a Bisk
Whilst the old potter
Mixed slip with a whisk

After the cooling
Slip pattern applied
Then back to the kiln
Once again baked inside

When baking had finished
One more final glaze
To give me a shine
Using old potter’s ways
