9 Lives

Elfe was the grandest of all of my cats
She dined on Reece's Pieces preferably flat

As a mother she bore babies one Bump and one Bent
Then three more before going, she got up and went

They wept- on their Journey to Cat Heaven's Gate
and Kept- their eyes closed- would not resuscitate

Twin graves dug too shallow couldn't keep them for long
They soon sprang up dancing to Death's haunting song

Christmas Holly was a He and had talents quite uncanny
He turned pirouttes, scoped roaches and retrieved rubber Marsupilami

His best friend was Sugar, fuzzy, cute, bitter, sweet
Who played like she was a tiger, went on prowls, liked to eat

Twice hit & twice run and all the felines were done
For- no cats came to Cal, this west wasn't won

But overseas there came a Twinkle and thereafter a Bat
Though the natives thought us strange to say 'Fledermaus' to a cat

In Kat's memory these were first, so their passing went not lightly
They found place in her pictures, poems and prayers almost nightly

In honor of her painting followed Pinsel & Palette
He could brush, stroke with his tail, She- colored etiquette

Nine lives graced these ages, now all of them spent
This portrait is of immortality, if not wholly eloquent

For the closest we come as mere men to Perfection
Is to have and to hold, and to love and to pet one

This is great, I lost my cat a year ago after having her since I was just a child. It hurt. You write well.
that was so sad but i really really liked it! Lylyanna
Tears, you're killing me, I love cats and this poem is beautiful!
I have a friend who is a SUPER cat lover and I plan to send this to her. Be careful when you write a poem in rhyme and meter. I loved the rhyme, but your meter is ragged in places. (Too many 'feet' in some of the lines) This is discouraging for readers. The images were really wonderful. I loved picturing the kittens. Raynette
