' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' A 60's Kid(For Scarlett)

In Maths class
I'm lost

clashing with the crushing Calculus
tangled in a skein of Algebra

getting slapped
& slapped

for my lack
of mathematical knowledge.

'I am not a number...
...I am a free man! '

I howl
in my best PRISONER

Now Science is fast
leaving me behind.

I scream
into the ignorance I am:

'Open the pod doors, Hal! '
'Open the pod doors, Hal! '

Now I'm lost
in space

Go home
relieved at last

from the throes
of my learning

switch on
the T.V.

Hear the music

into ethereal voices

& me

boldly go

where every schoolkid
goes every Wednesday

ever daring to
split the infinitive.

Ha! And not to mention the bravery of returning to that same class the next day (and for me, the next year! !) determined to 'go where I have never gone before' - - to a passing grade! !
