A Bonsai

Poem By Valsa George

On a sea strand,
Have you watched empty shells
Mercilessly tossed from sea to shore
And from shore to sea?

Often I shrink and reduce to such a shell,
With jagged and broken edges
Colourless and empty
Lying half buried under the sand,
Among many castaways,
Waiting for the mother or father wave
To wash me away.
How tedious is my voyage
Shuttling from father to mother
And from mother to father
Unable to openly confess
Who weighs more
On the balance of preference

Through how many alleys and by ways
I have wandered, questioning my identity!
Am I a puffer fish
Being toxic, the fisher men have discarded?
Or a jarring note in a discordant symphony?
I wonder! I often ask myself!

Destined to grow
In mercurial climes,
Planted in arid shallow soil
With the tap root trimmed,
Branches pruned,
Growth denied,
I, a stunted bonsai!

Still I dream to be a towering tree,
That in profusion gives fruits and shade
A midget aspiring to be a Goliath
A hollow reed,
Longing at once to be the singer and the song!

Mercilessly tossed from sea to shore empty shells lie down with many dreams but shrink. They shrink and reduce to such a shell, we feel amazement by thinking about it. We are fortunate to grow in destined and in mercurial climes. This poem has deep philosophy within. This is an excellent poem wonderfully penned.
The poem theme beautifully conveyed. Very good use of the shell and the growth metaphor.10+
Have to put this poetic gem to my Poem List.
Excellent write. Deeply poignant and moving with superb imagery. Touching lines that strike right at the heart. The separation between spouses will greatly affect the children. The battle for custody brings havoc to the family and greatly affect the development of the children, both mental and emotional. A very insightful write very well crafted.
On a sea strand, we watch the empty shells and try to feel them greatly. They are mercilessly tossed from sea to shore. Often we think and shrink on this issue. How tedious is the voyage! Every merciful clime is destined to grow. This poem is definitely very nicely and interestingly penned. This is an excellent poem shared here.10
