These trees have stood for centuries
Their roots reach deep to touch the earth
Their branches scatter memories
Much more than what a road is worth.

These dappled trees, our city's heart
grant grace and peace to weary men
whose wretched souls are torn apart
in concrete cells, a jailor's den.

These silent trees stand stoic calm,
Beneath the watching, weeping skies,
Each rustle but a gentle psalm,
a plea to end such sacrifice...

Stand with these trees, Stand earthward bound,
Stand firm to help them, stand their ground...
