A Father's Christmas Promise To His Daughter

Daddy, must you go to war?
I'll be back before you know it, dear,
Just in time for Christmas cheer.

And, so, came the twenty-third,
of December's cheer and promise
He came home, with medals in showers
in a flag draped box and flowers
and was buried 'neath iced dirt
on December twenty-third.
