A Month To Christmas

A month to Christmas
And commercialism
Starts to festoon our streets
With all its frippery.

As showy lights attempt
To give some glamour
To tawdry goods on sale
In dingy discount stores.

And so Consumer Christmas
Is upon us one more year
Or should we call it X-mas
As now Christ is banished

To the back of most men's minds
Almost extinct and ex-directory.
And X-mas is expensive
Excluding all the poor

Who, dispossessed,
Cannot afford or hope to join
In such deluxe festivity.
But should we pity them?

For they might find a simple
Christmas in their souls
Like that first manger scene
In distant Bethlehem.
