A Mother's Heart

A Mother's Heart

I won't be able to hug
The flowers you lay upon my grave,
But if you look at them closely
You will see
My teardrops falling like rain.
The dewdrops on fresh flowers
Are the tears I shed for you
We never got to say "Goodbye"
We never got to see it through.
The phone didn't ring
And my texts went dead
I waited for you each day
But you said you wanted me
To leave you alone
That you wished I'd just go away.
I had no choice
But to let you go
My pretty woman-child,
But you were always in
My heart and soul
Holding you each and every mile.
We learn as we grow
And in time we grow wise
But those whom we love
Have traveled long gone.
Be humble in life
And grateful in each moment
The clock ticks swiftly
