A Mother's Love?

A Mother's Love?

How can a mother not hurt
when her child cries out in pain?
How can she turn and look away
when there's so much to be gained?

If only her heart would open
and let God show the way,
to happiness and love everlasting.
For this, I'll always pray.

Is it possible to just feel nothing
towards the child you gave away?
Please say there is at least a hope
that you will love me again some day.

When I look at my child I feel love.
I could never turn my back.
But you never felt that way towards me.
Is it something that I lack?

We are all made up from different components. The problem comes from not really seeing them. We think that we understand how each one works in other people as well as ourselves but the truth is that sometimes we ALL simply loose our way, lost in our own personal intentions we become more and more unaware of the thoughts and feelings and needs of others. When I look back at my Childhood I can never seem to be able to remember a time when I felt real love from a family member. Mum did not seem to care or be interested in anything that I was. Then yesterday she opened up after 37years and told me of the pain that she had to endure through the war time in East Germany. I could not see at all before. I now see so much more. Mary if we knew every thought and feeling our hearts would take a sigh of understanding and we would cry from a place beyond our own Childhood when our mothers had to face similar pains. Take Care and always remember to smile and laugh at yourself. Love and Life. God Bless Duncan
Mary, first of all I wish to say that you have admirable talent, something not everyone has. I am impressed at the way you phrase the lines into living thought provokers. I felt the sadness, although I myself have never experienced the real thing. Your poem has introduced me to a fraction of your burdens. Nice to share it with you all in the name of poetry and love. All the best and keep writing!
I can relate to this poem, through personal experience. Made me feel uncomfortable, please know you are not alone. Its enjoyable to read the fruits of your labour. Thank you. Kindest Regards Slim.
