A Trini Christmas

Christmas. Parang and carols surround
The season with songs of joy.
Pastelles and fruitcakes are eating well
And turkeys gobble ham with chow-chow
While we neck ponche-de-crème and ginger beer.
Poinsettia and sorrel roll out red
Carpets in celebration, as Christmas
Trees stand proud and button coats with twinkles.
Crimes drop arms for awhile
And firecrackers bang their voices hot -
Goodwill embraces Hard-Hearted Hannah
And men at their best awaken
The Spirit of consciousness that seeks
No strife to cause sorrow or suffering,
Save to share in the radiance
Of glorious smiles that
Cheer the heart of man and God at Christmas.
