A Young Woman In The Morning

Poem By Raghurama Raju

It's dark still,
but it's time for her to get up!
She slowly releases herself from
the tight embrace of her man
and looks at her little baby!
It smiles even when it's asleep!
She operates the door silently
So not to disturb her baby
While the dark east turns orange,
And the sparkling stars begin to pale,
she bends her back as if to
touch the ground!
While the symbol of their sacred bond
Sways away from her bosom,
the soft, feathery thing in her delicate hand
moves gently across the threshold,
like the silky brush in a painter's hand!

No, that's not the way
One should compose a poem!

What's great about it?

What is there,
In that remote village?
Where buses and trains

We, Men!

We are men.
We don't know how and what women look for in men!
But we know much about ourselves.
We look at women as lumps of flesh

Waves,
Tiny waves -
In a cool, calm
