Abani, Are You There?
JS (November 9,1947 / Calcutta)

Abani, Are You There?

In dark sleep slumbers the street,
I hear the knock of night repeat
'Abani, are you there? '

It rains here all the twelve months
clouds like cows perambulate
the green reluctance of crabgrass
impedes the gate-

In the distant voyaging grief
of the half-waking heart I sleep
to hear the sudden knock of night
'Abani, are you there? '
