Absence Stings

Poem By Eila Mahima Jaipaul

there was the thing
that I did not want to see
though the cuts and bruises were there
to remind me
your ointment
had stopped the bleeding of my heart
well, there, and elsewhere
yet everything still hurt
most of it still stings
particularly your absence
that part would grow worse
