After The Fire Dies

After The Fire Dies

Tamed humanity has won its prize.
Unnamed victory has scarred the earth.

All that was,
is now not.

We took nature, its simplest form,
converted it,
stole it
to be our own;
a fury of science and
high thoughts.

After the fire dies, will we not be burned?
The sky will weep and hide the sun.
The sea will rage and drown itself.
The earth will hide its fecund joy,
and leave us,
naked,
to our designs.

After the fire dies, we will see the smoke
that veiled our
eyes and minds.
We will wail.
We will hate.
We will withdraw;
hermits to the solitude
of loneliness.

After the fire dies,
we will be man
in his
true
state.
