Alone And Empty

Poem By Bill Simmons

Coming home she will check the mail and get the letter
Among the bills she will gather up and take inside
At the door she will begin to read
And the look upon her face won’t be denied

She will walk about the house to find me somewhere
When she reads that I no longer care
In vain she may even call out my name
When she realizes our world we no longer share

When she reads the part about my broken heart
And how alone I was even with her at my side
Maybe then, only then, perhaps the tears will fall
When she reads my last words, good-bye

Maybe then when she realizes I am gone
And too that she is all alone
Maybe then she will understand the alone and empty
The way it was with her and I here at home

Maybe then, maybe then the tears will fall
Maybe then, perhaps then, she will cry
When she understands and feels the loneliness
And the alone that one can be so inside.
