Alone At Christmas Time

Softly stolen under the season's rains,
Underneath the sorrow stars...
And Winter's lament wrapped up around me.
Odd dreams are dancing in my head this night.
Soft snow toppled on fallen leaves,
From a Twilight sky so full of suffering.

And for a moment, I remembered what it was like:
Without a care in this whole world.
Lost in a warm place, in a galaxy of unmarked pain,
It has been said (and said again!)
That thine without love shall not find Happiness, not ever again.

Only, there are no moon and stars above this cradled bed,
Only childish dreams dancing thru a lonely head.
Dreams of drifting out some far-off sea...
Dreams of living in the clouds.
No dreams of such happy solemn sea should ever have belonged to me.
I know how it feels to want.

As I get older and older, my greatest fear is being alone. You are a very good poet, William! A ten.
