American Lion

The American lion awakens
The American lion shakes his golden mane
The American lion unsheathes his sharp claws
He surveys his land, his territory
He is king of all, king of everything
The American lion is risen large
He is challenged and wins
Challenged and wins again
His eyes flash and gleam
Claws flying, teeth bared
But the whole time he says
He is no war mongerer
Just a humble policemen of the wild
The American lion is strong
He knows he is respected
Yet no one voices it
When he is challenged and war begins again
It is no longer the challenger's fault
Now it is his, the American lion's
And no one respects him any more
He makes a mistake, and trips
Will the American lion fall?
Or will his awful legacy resist?
