An Endangered Bloom

The desert flower sits and cries
...or sometimes stands alone,
Against the wind and rain and sun
...then withers or unfolds. A heart of gold encased within
...an aging outer shell,
Only to emerge again
...and surround you with her spell. Love is like a garden
...of enchanted wilderness,
Only to be charted
...by our unstubborn willingness.
