April In Millstreet

Back there in the fields of the silver backed crow
Where Finnow the white river to the Blackwater flow
Deciduous trees sprouting new leaves and fruit bearing plants in their blooms of pink to gray
And the wildborn birds of song are singing today
Though the rain drizzling down and the sun not to be seen
The old fields are looking so lush and so green
And quite resplendent in their April flowers
That have been brought to life in the recent Spring showers
Cattle out of wintering farmyard sheds from months of living on silage and hay
On the nutritious young grass gaining weight by the day
And Nature's bluebells beautiful to be seen
Blooming on the ditches of every bohreen
And in the gray fogs of rain Clara is half cloaked today
In April in Millstreet from here far away
