Assassins

I read somewhere, just lately,
just as we are told we should
read good books and verses
I thought about these
two assassins who were told
to kill a young princess
for the common good.

Said one in a tremble 'I look
as a fever, all sweaty, yet feel
Oh God, that if I do this deed
to kill a child, so sweet so meek
I will be condemned to hell
or boredom or a week
in politics.

The other older, bolder
scoffed and laughed
and said - don't fret, don't fear
For God has already killed
one million innocent girls
this year and is far too busy
this week
to reply.
