At The Blues
Poem By Anji Carter
Throbbing beat with pounding sounds,
Smokey shadows of figures, just silhouettes, dancing.
Shafts of light pierce smoke-filled darkness,
Hazy patterns of atmosphere....
Music pounds up through your body,
Fills you - beats against your breast
Music, life's blood, pulses from your heart that's music
chases courses through your veins.
Young man 'toasting' tell your stories
Chanting on your rhythmic ocean,
Modern day minstrels - poetry in motion,
1980's style, at the....
New culture with old roots.
The tree that was stripped will blossom again.
It's bursting with buds from the scars that are healing.
Africa is returning!
Back to the bodies from which it was driven.
Stolen by slavery.
Resurrecting the feelings 'Time's' abuses were concealing.
'Sounds man's' controlling,
The music is flowing.
The 'Sound-System's' playing,
And Africa is growing another young tree...
..at the 'Blues Dance'!
