Be Drunk

You have to be always drunk. That's all there is to it--it's the
only way. So as not to feel the horrible burden of time that breaks
your back and bends you to the earth, you have to be continually
drunk.

Absolutely love this.
Intoxication by any means is delivered by this poem.
It seems - from this poem and others - that life is an overwhelming foe.
Wow. powerful about being in love with Life. Be drunk. Love it.
Being drunk on wine or virtue can be a problem. Virtue here means spiritualism or religion. When a person is drunk in religion he/she tends to do some preaching to people around. Spiritual people don't like freedom of thought.
This was the motivation i needed thank you.
Oh yes I agree Being drunk does not only mean about wine or liquor Yes be drunk with love or poetry or passion or happiness I am glad I saw this poem today Thank you

Horrible advice. There is no need to escape reality by being drunk all the time. Life is beautiful. Learn to appreciate the beauties of this life. If you must be drunk on something, let it be poetry for sure!
always be drunk on something...awesome piece and very true.
Very meaningful poem and the great spirit of poetry
Why do we live if we constantly want to escape reality? True in all times. What a tragedy!
Be drunk on wine, poetry, or virtue as you wish (or in today's modern age: be drunk on movies, video games, e-books etc.) So as not to feel the horrible burden of time that breaks your back and bends you to the earth, you have to be continually drunk. How true. Escape your worries of death, money, old age, disease, the monotony of work, and be intoxicated by that which puts passion in your life.
everything that is flying, everything that is groaning, everything that is rolling, everything that is singing, everything that is speaking That is me drunk on passion. To be so moved by a dead man is nearly necrophilia.
so true......beautifully put, , , , ,
