Be fair, beloved. Is this all you offer
by Salvie Rosales
For my long wait; one moment’s ecstasy,
Brief as the beauty shooting stars would proffer?
Ah, if you knew what fears had fretted me!
Feet may not hasted swift enough to meet you,
The arms ill answer to the soul’s desire,
Lips prove too halting in the way they greet you,
My futile faltering incite your ire….
Love, it was only joy anticipated
Allayed those fears in the impatient heart,
But now before that heart is compensated,
Coolly you whisper it is time to part.
Where is the justice, loved one in this;
The worried wait too long, too brief the bliss!
