Poem By Valerie Dohren

I saw the face of beauty fixed
Upon the rising sun
Beyond all mortal compliment
Her loveliness there shone

Within the constellations set
Against the heav`nly realm
She glittered `cross the universe
My heart to overwhelm

The Seven Sisters ne`er could light
All heaven like her smile
Nor Aphrodite`s sweetest face
The spirit to beguile

Then here beneath the starry dome
She rests upon the land
Encaptured by the glist`ning streams
And meadows, broadly spanned

For lying thus in fields of green
With flowers in her hair
The benediction of her charms
Is full beyond compare

She dances like a pearly wraith
Upon the crested waves
So comely bound in all that which
Imagination craves

Her voice is likened to the song
The Mousai sing at dawn
Whilst sunlight does her aspect grace
In fields of golden corn

May beauty steal my eyes away
From all in darkness veiled
And grant to me her precious gift
`Gainst which all else is paled

O beauty shall you hearken thus
My joy forever be
For beauty dwells within the soul
As beauty is to me

Comments about Beauty

Beyond all mortal compliment you have seen beauty of nature and rising sun. Such a tender sun motivates mind to feel the fresh appearance. Beauty dwells within the soul as righteous grace of God. This poem is greatly and excellently penned basing upon perception...10
Valerie thank you so much for writing this poem in the style you express so lovingly. Please don't be offended when I say there are warm and most welcome echoes in your writing, of two of my favourite writers and their good names are Ella Wheeler Wilcox and Jean Ingelow. Thank you so much.
Wow, I'm so glad to see modern writers paying homage to the beautiful writing style of the old masters. The spirit of the ole' romantics lives on with your poetry. You have inspired me that I may say poetry is not dead. We cannot and will not abandon rhyme and meter because modern academics tell us to. Look what modern art has done to the universities. Squares, dots, and smudges replace the refined genius of Monet, Waterhouse, and Da Vinci. Let it not be the same with poetry. I can't wait to read your other poems. Keep writing!
A priceless painting of beauty!
