Behind The Door

Behind this place of yesteryear
We sit beside the open door
Where children’s laughter we did hear
Much like the sound of a creaking floor

For behind the door we once did know
Where children old and young did grow
A time, a place, we’ll not go back
For our house, our home is now a shack

Home sweet home is where our heart lies
A gentle hug, a warm good-bye
For what is this that I now see?
A brand new home for you and me

I cannot imagine a better way to tell this story and such a perfect ending. Your poetry is charactereized by directness, simplicity and a certain happy playfulness
