Birth Of A Poem

A feeling
too delicate to identify
unfolds into an idea
conceived
then stranded on a page
stranded
slowly developing a life that is its own
a strand

strands of words weave themselves
into pleasing shapes
and discover form
which wrestles with a truth
each sentence interlaced with rhythm
or entwined with rhyme
combined with colours of understanding
understated

threads of debris
cast themselves off
reluctantly
releasing a garment
that will fit
will sit comfortably
today
and always
