Burning Down The Highway

Burning down the highway at night
Don’t take that ride unless you’re ready
To go with it a while
To stay with it a while
To die within a mile
Of your destination.
Unwanted ambition in your pocket,
Rocking and rolling down that highway
Bouncing around that careening pinball
Heart you have and everyone’s
Wearing it out.
Tired of all that you think maybe
You’ll wear your death jacket,
The one with the cool logo
Wearing your true colors
The ones you came with
The jacket with your real name
Embroidered on the back
The name no one knows.
Not even you.
