AW (21st May 1970 / Newcastle Upon Tyne)

Last of a long line-
Reached the end,
Outside of time.
Stopped and looked back
At the dream.
Woken up from narcotic bliss
To carry the can,
Full of bitterness.
To be assessed for your
Heritage? Heresies? Heroism?
Does your code fit the lock
Or is it the key to your cell block?
Will you be saved or shamed and enslaved
Again and again on the wheel?

But those brave few, who feel the need,
Fight machines and stand firm
On the earth with raging hearts,
Will at least be remembered.
Eternally on this battlefield,
More alive than the pale shadows
Which merely haunt our skies.
