Center Of The Story

I.
I told him something has to give way sooner or later in your life.
It may be you,
your company,
your marriage
or your children.

II.
He did not take kindly to my telling him what to do.
He said he was an optimist,
and very much in charge of his life.
I felt embarrassed for having challenged him
about his hectic lifestyle.

III.
Some time later he got in touch again.
His family had indeed collapsed.
His 10-year-old son had gone 'literally berserk.'

IV.
I didn’t say, “I told you so.”
I’m proud I didn’t.
I’ve told the story to lots of people.
and I tell them that I didn’t say, “I told you so.”
