Change Again

The year slid from month to month.
It did not acknowledge my pain and fear.
As I envisaged mould and worms conquering her
Gorgeous liquid amber eyes,
I understand how flesh surrenders itself and what once was strong
Is overcome by the minute.

The year slid from month to month
From rain to sun and back
The torture was consigning her to the elements
Let water and heat reclaim their dirt.
What was precious has flown home to the Maker.
There'll be time yet to prepare me.

The year slid from month to month.
I've changed. Am changing still.

Pain coalesces.
