Climbing

Poem By William E. Mays

Climbing
a way of life for many
some summit always ahead
not an Alpine peak or Mount Everest
but always a challenge and dare
to rise from the depths to new found heights
give fresh form to a pioneer dream
as mind, heart, and soul shout
Eureka! I've made real a part of that scheme!
It may be a vaccine to conquer disease
or a tune to set hearts aflame
a well-written tale to make another's hopes glow
caught up in some helpful scheme.
Still, no matter how great the conquest
It is but a way-stop, you see
since those who must climb see new heights to scale
daring never to fail nor retreat.

To have the right to dream
and to follow it each day
until some tiny part of it
is you in every way

Wide Prairie Sky

Wide prairie sky
blue as an azury sea
carrying armadas of white
sailing forth on a stiff March breeze
