Contradiction

I smile at kind destiny who crossed our paths
And curse cruel fate that it was too late,
We hurt ourselves but we’ll not hurt others
We can be friends but never lovers.
It’s not Cupid’s arrow that pierces my heart
But a double edged sword –
pleasure and pain are tearing me apart.

We don’t know each other at all but know us so well,
And there’s so much more that I want you to tell
But then it’s easier not to know
Harder still, to let you go.
It’s not Cupid’s arrow that pierces my heart
But a double edged sword –
joy and despair are tearing me apart.

I long for the warmth of your touch and the heat of your kiss
Moments together are few,
Soon, you will stop desiring me
But I will never stop loving you.
It’s not Cupid’s arrow that pierces my heart
But a double edged sword –
the agony and ecstasy are tearing me apart.

And I dream of a day when we can be together and shine,
But that will be in another place and another time.
Laughter and tears fill my heart
I’m happy but sad –
it’s tearing me apart.

A fine piece of work. I love the balance and the flow of the lines. It has rhymn and a subtle rhyme that weaves in and out. There are few things more confusing yet debilitating than relationships Steve
