Daughter Mine

Poem By Joy Rudd

Born, Loved, Cherished, Taught
Then sixteen it’s all for naught
Bad decisions, Rash Behavior,
Self Dishonor and Disrespect
Go ahead, move out, quit school
You know it all; you think I’m a fool
No choice but to worry and wait, no where to turn
Here it comes, crash and burn
The low it seems is not low enough, pride still remains
Hard life, hard lessons; it seems nothing gained
My hopes for your future still live inside me
For the smart, capable, and determined young woman
I thought I raised you to be
Be well, daughter mine
Remember you are still Loved and Cherished
Until the end of time
