Death Sentence

The cancer started out small
but spread like wildfire
damaging the body organ by organ.
Medications helped a little
but not enough to relieve the pain
so the strategy is to hope for an easier day.
Days are harder as time goes on,
There is nothing anyone can do
But feel love and compassion
To the one who has a month to live.
Pursuing the dreams
that twelve year old once had
makes his life seem better
despite the length left.
As his tiny heart starts shutting down,
His parents want to cry,
He looks them deep in the eyes
And says, 'I love you mommy and daddy.'
They hold his hand tight as he slips away
And cry on his shoulder
'Jesus show him the way.'
