Discard What Defines You

Poem By gershon hepner

Discard what defines you,
discover a range
beyond what confines you,
be challenged by change.
Embrace it, be cruel
to those who predict
there can’t be renewal
of paths you have picked,
redundant as peelings
of Idaho spuds,
the shell of your feelings,
like stick-in-the muds
that once they’re discarded
can let you surprise
the world, unretarded
by habit and lies.
