(do What Makes You Happy)

My parents once said to me
When you grow up
What would you like to be
An actor I said
I use to dream of it
Whist I lay in bed
They would say
It doesn't matter
What you want to be
As long as it makes you happy

My parents use to say to me
When you are a grown man
What would you like to be
I would like to be an engineer
I liked the idea of building things
My dream was clear
And others would say
It doesn't matter
What you want to do
As long as it pleases you

My parents have always said
When you grow up
What would you like to become
I want to be an astronaut
And fly in space
And all they would say is
As long as it puts a smile on your face
Because you see
It doesn't matter what you want to be
As long as it makes YOU happy.

Dreams may not work the way we want ultimately but you cannot help dreaming. good write.
A powerful perspective on goodness of fit. Well done my friend!
Lovely write. The title is the gist of all your lines and a great message too. Many a times we try to make others happy, but forget that unless we are happy we can't make others.
Indeed, our parents want us to be happy..... so they like us to do something that truly makes us happy! Nice sentiment!
being happy in your life is most important. all the rest will come together. good write
