Domestic Disturbance

As the couple next door
Resume hostilities
Bits of their detritus
Float in the August night;
Ceremonial fuss
Accompanies the rage
Of love, turned inside out,
That plays upon the stage
With echoed cries and shouts
While blue light at street's end
- Submarine in its depths -
Comes ever closer now,
The police light pulses
Brightly in the shadow
Of repetitive dark,
Marital contretemps:
Not the first time nor last.
