Drifting Away

The prospect of living all alone does not delight me
Nor does it unduly depress or dampen me
Even singing in chorus, I have sung all alone
Even marching with comrades, I have marched all alone
Even advancing in company along the dark valley drear,
I kept single, individual strides distinct, intact
At the ultimate fusion, should I resist
My drifting away with the floating multitude?
Resistance or rage in this context, would it spell
Folly or would it highlight the hero in me ?
