Early April

A sentry line of trees
Greets me every morning
Across my wooden deck...
Variegated perennials:
Hardy, soft and brittle
That grow in harmony
With unlike genera:
Interlocking branches
Patiently awaiting
Divine shadings of green:
Chartreuse, nile and olive...

The people of the forest -
Kaleidoscopes of color.
Can they bend and blend?
Can they mingle and blossom?

Oh, that Spring were harbinger...
