Far South Of The Countryside

The roadways of life i have been up and down
And i have been in many a village and town
Since i left my first home by the Town of Millstreet
In the green countryside where the waterways meet

To see some of the World used to be my desire
But the stay at home people nowadays i admire
Those who never wish to grow old from their first home elsewhere
As migrants in the bigger World out there

In the coastal Moyne Shire in distance far south
Of the fields of the badger and waterways of the brown trout
Time has left me looking older and balding and gray
I am one who has known of a far better day

Far south of where i went to primary school
In Illowa between Koroit and Warrnambool
From Duhallow a different countryside in every way
As different indeed as night is from day

I am learning about Nature every day of the year
Where the flutes of the magpies i often does hear
In the undulating country by the Pacific shore
Far south of the roadway that leads to Rathmore

In the home of emu, echidna, koala, white corella and black cockatoo
And crimson rosella, wallaby and gray kangaroo
In memory time for me only stands still
Far south of the countryside near Clara's hill.
