First Born

Poem By Bill Simmons

He lay the newborn child
On his bed at his side
He wondered at the marvel of it all
Inside so swelled with pride

Tiny hand that clasp his finger
While asleep held on so tight
While asleep he breathed her fragrance in
For the first time of his life

Tiny fingers of thy own daughter
So perfect in his eyes
He knows where in life she goes
Love will follow in her life

May the love of your mother
Guide your soul as you grow
And the love of your father
Forever in your heart you know

Tiny hand that clasp finger
So perfect in his eyes
May love so adorn your world
As I pass through your life.
