When you are floored
By a harsh blow
It's best to lie there
For the full count
(What ever the full count is for you)

And not spring up at once
And not start pummeling frantically
with blind unfocused abandon

Remembering this:

While I was lying there I thought
Maybe that's why the pugnacious
Are dealt with accordingly

During this little pause for reflection
Maybe they may come to see

A certain valor In prudence and assessment - after all

So while I'm lying here (again)
I try to think how long
A minute actually is - (it can be quite long sometimes- believe me)

And how much needed, thinking time
The Gods withkind and gracious understanding

Have once again bestowed on me
