Oh Spring, I've seen your rising sphere, the dawn
In fertile fields of green, of copper bright;
How poor perfection seems? Woefully drawn
Compared to you: first love of life, first light.
And as your tender rays embrace the Night,
And dreams pull down her bitter frigid reign,
Against a new Sovereign old rage and fright
Are glacial cold; such icy tears are vain.
There is no home but yours in Spring's domain;
Love - long oppressed beneath such frozen pall.
What breathes anew when wonders live again?
Our Winter was the night; My heart, was thrall!
Oh Spring, I've seen Our rising sphere, the Dawn!
And Love, though I did lose, shall carry on...
