For Ruth

Poem By Fred Babbin

We have a tiny Japanese garden in back, and this Elm was about a yard in diameter in the wrong place. It got Dutch Elm disease this year.

Farewell great Elm,
I knew you well.
You were my bane and her delight.
Your life was long and good
but you were also mortal.
And so mortality
took it’s payment
once again.

Yes - Mortality - the very word echoes like a bell it's great toll. A thoughtful tribute to the Elm, as with all big trees it's life surely was great and good. Greetings from Fay Slimm. Cornwall U.K. I spent a vacation once near a garden which had a big tall Sunflower and I was moved to write a tribute too after a week of admiration for that tall monster. Have a read of it Fred, and I would appreciate your views.
