Forgiveness Forgotten

Should you choose to let me live
i shall feast upon my breath
But if you choose to hunt me down
you will yoke me to my death

Behind your veil of spoken vows
is the sight of my own grave
In my attempts to reach your heart
you retain me as your slave

Were it not for the stars
with their freedom in sight
there would never be the hope
of an end to this fight

When i approached on bended knee
with a plot to re-adjust
you chose to bid me guilty
and befriended the unjust

If you could have seen the tears
or tasted the wounds of my sorrows past
Perhaps you would have forgiven
and put our souls to rest at last

If my price remains too high
and i ask for far too much
then release to me my dignity
before my sanity loses touch
